Siemens Mobility is building a 2,000 km long, state-of-the-art high-speed rail network that connects all major cities in the country. It is the sixth largest in the world. At the same time, this enables electrified long-distance and freight transport. The trains for this will travel at speeds of up to 230 km/h. The integrated system creates the sixth largest high-speed rail network in the world and enables 90% of Egyptians to access a modern, safe and affordable transport system. The fully electrified rail network will reduce CO2 emissions by 70% compared to buses and cars, further supporting Egypt’s efforts to make the country’s mobility more sustainable. Siemens Mobility is supplying its Velaro high-speed trains, Desiro High Capacity regional trains and Vectron locomotives for freight transport.
